Italy Day 4

Day 4 was the first full day of being with my host family. I started my day with a small breakfast and got ready to head out to my host students' school. I walked to school with him and met up with the others from my school. We shared stories from our first night with our families. We then walked into the school to find our students in their classes. My host student's first class was Math. I couldn't understand much of what he was saying because they were using words I hadn't heard before and talking very fast. During the middle of the school day, my teachers decided that we didn't have to spend the rest of the day in school with our host student, so we went to the shops and market right outside of the school until the school day was done for our students. I used this time to my full advantage and went around to different shops, trying to figure out how to buy things. I looked around and noticed how the locals were answering and responding to the sellers. I used what I gathered from my limited information of what they said and tried my best to do it myself. Let me tell you, it did not go well at first. The seller didn't even understand me, but we were able to get around that. After trying my hand at the market, I saw some vendors on the street selling these yellow flowers. I made a mental note to ask my host student why they were selling all the same flowers when I saw him next. Once the school day was done, we walked back to his house. As we were walking, I asked him about the flowers, and he said that they were selling mimosa flowers for La Festa della donna, which is International Women's Day. He bought some for his mom, and then we went and had lunch. This day was probably the most regular day-to-day activity day while I was there. Sadly I didn't take any photos while I was there.
